Photo Series: The Real Faces Of India
There’s something about authentic photography that captivates us all. Maybe it’s that it represents a moment lost in time or that it exposes a different side of things. It can incite feelings of curiosity, happiness, familiarity, and even sorrow. An authentic photograph makes the subject come alive in a viewer’s mind. Like the great Swiss-American photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank says:
“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment. This kind of photography is realism. But realism is not enough – there has to be vision, and the two together can make a good photograph.”
This particular photo series takes the observer on a journey through the eyes of a foreign volunteer in India, portraying just that — the humanity of the moment along with a vision, to expose the true and raw beauty of the Indian people.
Shawn Johnson, pictured right volunteered at Himalayan Volunteering Opportunities this past summer and is the photographer of this series. Naveen, pictured middle is the founder of this non-profit organization.
